Services
to Overcome Drug Abuse Among Teenagers of New Jersey, Inc.
(SODAT, Inc) was established in Gloucester County in 1969
as a free-standing, non-profit agency staffed by
professional substance abuse counselors. SODAT has
been in operation for over thirty years and has struggled
through many crises in which other programs have folded
under such pressure. SODAT initially was established
to treat youths, however we now treat people of all ages
for drug and alcohol abuse. SODAT operates under the
auspices of the New Jersey Department of Human Services,
Division of Addiction Services. We are proud to say
that we are a United Way Member Agency in Burlington,
Gloucester and Salem Counties. SODAT has been
honored to receive two national awards to our innovative
substance abuse prevention programs; the United States
Department of Education Award for Excellence and the
United States Secretary of State Award for Outstanding
Program.
SODAT
extended its services into Salem County in 1978,
Burlington County in 1985, Camden County in 1990 and
Cumberland County in 1995. SODAT's expansion into
these counties was based on fulfilling an unmet substance
abuse treatment and prevention need. SODAT provides
a variety of substance abuse primary prevention and
treatment services which include outpatient and intensive
outpatient treatment and evaluations, student assistance,
employee assistance, prevention programs, adult and
juvenile criminal justice programs, children of substance
abusers programs, school based interventions, parenting
effectiveness education and more.
SODAT is
a program that continuously evaluates the effectiveness of
itself by conducting client program evaluations and
referral questionnaires. This feedback is used to
improve upon SODAT's therapeutic approach.
SODAT has
become a leader and resource center for community
treatment and a primary prevention program, in an effort
to reduce and/or prevent drug and alcohol abuse among
young people.
